Itinerary
Moshi - Rongai Gate - Simba Camp
Your journey officially commences as you head from Moshi towards the Rongai Gate, the starting point of the Rongai Route. As you trek through the rainforest, you will encounter a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The temperature decreases gradually as you ascend, averaging around 15°C to 25°C. The distance covered on this day is approximately 8 kilometers, reaching an elevation of about 2,625 meters at Simba Camp.
Simba Camp - Second Cave
Ascending further, the trail leads you through moorland characterized by low vegetation and unique plant life adapted to higher altitudes. The day's trek covers a distance of about 5 kilometers, reaching an elevation of approximately 3,450 meters at Second Cave. Temperatures drop to an average of 10°C to 20°C in this terrain.
Second Cave - Third Cave
Continuing through the alpine desert, the landscape changes, showcasing Kilimanjaro's stark beauty. The day's trek spans around 3 kilometers, leading to an elevation of approximately 3,870 meters at Third Cave. Temperatures can range from 5°C to 15°C in this region.
Third Cave - Kibo Hut
As you approach the Kibo Hut, situated at an altitude of about 4,700 meters, the terrain transforms into a lunar-like landscape with sparse vegetation. The distance covered on this day is approximately 5 kilometers, with temperatures dropping to around -5°C to 5°C, especially at night.
Kibo Hut - Uhuru Peak - (summit point) - Back to Horombo Hut
The most challenging yet rewarding day awaits as you ascend towards Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point at 5,895 meters. After reaching the summit and soaking in the unparalleled views, descend to Horombo Hut, situated at around 3,720 meters.
