Itinerary
Moshi – Londorossi gate to Big Tree Camp:
Enter the rainforest zone at Londorossi gate, trekking towards Big Tree Camp. Temperature drops to approximately 10°C, surrounded by lush vegetation and diverse flora.
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 camp
Transition into the moorland zone, reaching Shira 1 camp at an altitude of around 3,500 meters. Witness the shift in vegetation, encountering giant heather and unique high-altitude plants.
Shira 1 camp to Lava Tower to Moir Hut
Ascend to Lava Tower at 4,600 meters, passing through alpine desert. Vegetation becomes sparse, showcasing resilient mosses and lichens adapted to harsh environments.
Moir Hut to Buffalo camp
Traverse the Barranco Valley, crossing varied terrains. Reach Buffalo camp at approximately 4,020 meters, experiencing stark landscapes with minimal vegetation
Buffalo camp to Third Cave
Continue through the alpine desert, reaching Third Cave at around 3,870 meters. Witness the rugged terrain and the hardy vegetation that survives in such conditions.
Third Cave to School Hut
Ascend to School Hut at 4,715 meters, encountering rocky outcrops and a significant drop in temperature. Vegetation consists mainly of resilient mosses and lichens.
School Hut to Uhuru Peak – Mweka camp
Summit day brings the ascent to Uhuru Peak at an impressive 5,895 meters. Descend to Mweka camp at 3,100 meters, experiencing drastic temperature changes and a return to lush rainforest vegetation.
Mweka camp to Mweka gate – Back to Moshi/Arusha
Complete the descent through the rainforest, reaching Mweka gate. Return to Moshi or Arusha, reflecting on the magical journey through diverse landscapes and natural phenomena.
