Itinerary
Moshi/Arusha – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree)
The journey commences with a drive to Londorossi Gate, the gateway to Kilimanjaro National Park. Begin the trek through rich rainforests, spotting the magnificent Mti Mkubwa, where the first camp awaits. Temperatures hover around 20°C (68°F), surrounded by lush greenery.
Mti Mkubwa – Shira 2 Camp
Traverse through moorlands and heath, ascending to Shira 2 Camp. The landscape transforms into open expanses with scattered shrubs. Temperatures range from 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F), offering glimpses of Kilimanjaro's diverse ecology.
Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Ascend towards Lava Tower, acclimatizing to the altitude. Descend to Barranco Camp, passing through the breathtaking Barranco Wall. The temperature drops to 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F), surrounded by striking alpine desert scenery.
Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Trek through valleys and ridges, ascending to Karanga Camp. Temperatures vary from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F), revealing stunning views of the glacial valleys and the distant summit.
Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp
Push towards Barafu Camp, the base for the summit attempt. Temperatures drop significantly to below freezing, around -5°C to 5°C (23°F to 41°F). The landscape shifts to rocky terrain, preparing you for the final ascent.
Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (Summit Point) – Back to Barafu Camp then to Mweka Camp
The summit bid begins under the starlit sky, aiming for Uhuru Peak. Experience sunrise at the summit, celebrating at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet). Descend to Barafu Camp before continuing to Mweka Camp. Temperatures range from -10°C to -20°C (14°F to -4°F) at the summit.
Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Moshi
Descend through lush rainforests to Mweka Gate, marking the end of the trek. Celebrate your triumph as you return to Moshi, cherishing the memories of Kilimanjaro's breathtaking landscapes.
