Itinerary
Moshi Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
The journey begins at the Rongai Gate, situated around 1,950 meters above sea level. You will traverse through dense forests, witnessing diverse flora and fauna, and arrive at Simba Camp (around 2,625 meters), surrounded by stunning vegetation and mild temperatures averaging 15-20°C.
Simba Camp to Second Cave
Ascending further, the trail takes you to Second Cave (around 3,450 meters), offering a transition from forests to moorlands. The temperature drops, averaging around 5-15°C. The landscape transforms into a more rugged terrain with scattered vegetation.
Second Cave to Third Cave
Continuing the ascent, you will reach Third Cave (around 3,870 meters), encountering alpine desert conditions. The temperature can drop below freezing, with sparse vegetation and rocky terrain marking this stage of the trek.
Third Cave to Kibo Hut
Approaching Kibo Hut (around 4,700 meters), you will navigate through the lunar-like landscape of the Saddle. Temperatures can vary from -10°C to 5°C, with minimal vegetation and a stark, otherworldly ambiance.
Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo Hut
On Day 5, the landscape transforms as you trek the tranquil Mawenzi Tarn to the legendary Kibo Hut.
