Itinerary
Moshi to Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp
Embark on your trek from Londorossi Gate, delving into a lush rainforest. Witness a variety of flora and fauna, with temperatures around 20°C. Big Tree Camp welcomes you at an altitude of approximately 2,780 meters.
Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Ascend through the rainforest to Mti Mkubwa and enter the moorland zone. Shira 1 Camp, situated at around 3,505 meters, offers panoramic views of the Shira Plateau.
Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Continue through the alpine desert, encountering the unique vegetation adapted to high altitudes. Shira 2 Camp, around 3,810 meters, is your resting point.
Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Moir Hut
Hike to Lava Tower, a dramatic volcanic formation. Experience a change in vegetation as you reach Moir Hut at an elevation of approximately 4,200 meters.
Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp
Traverse the high alpine desert, crossing Buffalo Camp at an altitude of around 4,020 meters. Marvel at the spectacular views of the surroundings.
Buffalo Camp to Third Cave
Descend to the Third Cave, situated at approximately 3,870 meters. Notice the changes in temperature and vegetation as you descend.
Third Cave to School Hut
Ascend to School Hut at an elevation of around 4,715 meters, reaching the glacial zone. Prepare for the summit push with a restful night.
School Hut to Uhuru Peak (Summit Point) to Mweka Camp
Embark on the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. Descend to Mweka Camp at around 3,100 meters, experiencing varied ecosystems.
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Back to Moshi/Arusha
Complete the trek, descending through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Celebrate your achievement before returning to Moshi or Arusha.
